नींबू-मिर्ची | lemon-chilli | limone-peperoncino

(2024, Italy | Sculpture and Still Images)
(Yarn, Plastic, Steel Wires and Copper Wires)

A prominent symbol of Indian Culture's unique blend of tradition and modernity. नींबू-मिर्ची (lemon chilli) is a prevalent make-shift sculpture hanging outside of private spaces to ward off the "evil eye" of Alakshmi, the Hindu Goddess of misfortune. Alakshmi prefers pungent things, so hanging the Nimbu Mirchi outside will keep her busy and "forget" to enter the house, avoiding the misfortune she brings along.

The sculpture is built with the workshop scraps of Fabrica. Yarn, Plastic, Steel Wires and Copper Wires - some fundamental elements of modernism are used to construct the quotidian symbol of India's traditionalism.
