longing for being

(2024, Italy | Artistic Research Project)
(Site-specific Audio-Visual installation activated with a Proto-Cinematic Live Performance)
(Realised during the ‘Co-Ecologies’ residency program at FABRICA Research Centre)
(Exhibited during the final exposition titled
'Blooming in Embers' on the 16th of February, 2024)

The longing for belonging brings existential dread with itself. It converges into the longing for being.

This project is an enquiry into the immortal quest for belonging-ness, through an artistic research framework that brings forth the subaltern realities and weaves a tapestry of multiple temporality formats.

The installation is an amalgamation of different mediums. It is a cinematographic presentation in a spatial soundscape through the borders of dams. The installation draws from expanded cinema as a medium and initiates a dialogue with elements of archaic storytelling formats like, street plays and make-shift theatre performances.

The foundational philosophical concept for the exhibition is to reiterate that the whole is ‘less’ than the sum of its parts and to never conform to the legacy of monotheistic concepts. The constant aspiration is to move away from easy binaries and a temptation to surrender to a nostalgic narrative of truth outside of politics. It is not a retreat from reality but an investigation of the mess.
